software
Adobe Creative Cloud: Like many designers, I use the industry-standard design and imaging software from Adobe. It has its problems, but I am a genuine fan. Accessible design software (Photoshop Elements 5 on my family computer) is why I was able to become a graphic designer in the first place. Pro tip: After your first year, if you threaten to cancel your subscription and go through the process to do so, you will be greeted by a few “special offers” of a discounted price. Enjoy!
AirTable: Oh my god, I love AirTable. I use AirTable to intake project requests with a form embedded on my website, to track projects and tasks, to send automated emails to potential clients, capture product ideas, and send myself week-ahead emails with tasks and due dates. All on the free plan. It’s an incredibly powerful application.

Stock image sites
Adobe Stock: Adobe Stock is, like its name implies, Adobe’s stock image site. Conveniently accessible via your Creative Cloud dashboard, you can buy image credits a la cart or purchase monthly subscription plans. There is also an excellent free section.

Business tools
Wave: If you are just getting started as a freelancer or small business owner, I cannot recommend Wave enough. When you’re first dipping your toes into the small business pool (no pun intended), overhead can be especially important. Get this: Wave is free! With it you can categorize business transactions and send invoices and estimates. They also have paid options for helping with taxes or bookkeeping.
